There are varying degrees of treatments for stretch marks. There are those that are least direct and almost preventive such as eating the right kind of food and keeping your skin nourished while there are those that are invasive and specialized such as surgery and other medical procedures.
This time we're going to look at the methods of treating stretch marks that fall between the two types above ' the use of topical substances. These treatments that are at moderate degree because on the one hand, they're not as direct as surgery nor are they as expensive. While on the other hand, they're not as passive as dieting or exercise, but are a bit more expensive.
You can get most of these over the counter at your local pharmacy. Here are some of them and how they work.
Alpha Hydroxin Acid ' this is an ingredient found in almost all major brands of skin creams for stretch marks. This is extracted from sugar cane or dairy products, and are very good natural exfoliating agents. When applied to the skin, they dissolve dead skin by breaking down the proteins around them, allowing for newer skin to surface. You thus eliminate stretch marks just under your skin.
Retinoids ' these are also found in most stretch mark creams. They stimulate the growth of skin cells near the epidermis. By allowing skin cells to grow faster, you increase the rate of replacing those dead skin cells and refresh the appearance of your skin, ultimately getting rid of stretch marks.
Salicylic acid ' this one is not very easy to come by but when you do you'll see that it's as effective as the other topical anti-stretch mark ingredients that are there. The acid allows for effective exfoliation of the skin, inducing new skin to come out and replace the ones with stretch marks. Not only that, salicylic acid also helps prevent stretch marks from recurring and it prevents other skin blemishes such as acne, pimples, and other skin problems as well.
So if you're looking for something that will work faster than massages or dieting but don't want to go as far as surgery yet, then go for the middle methods and look for anti-stretch mark creams that are available for you.
