Generic Celexa is an antidepressant used only when prescribed by certified healthcare professionals. Grouped under the selective-serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs), Celexa, which was first developed, is formed from both the R and S enantiomorphs of citalopram. Lexapro that belongs to the same class as Celexa does not, however, comprise the R enantiomer, just the S. Therefore, even though both Lexapro and Celexa are employed to treat depression, Lexapro does the additional task of treating anxiety. Celexa is not useful in the treatment of anxiety. Occasionally, quite a few patients may come across anxiety to a lesser extent from using Celexa, but it is not an established therapy.
